Overview
About
Government-owned energy company of the state of Victoria, Australia. Originally established in 1918 to develop the state's brown coal resources, it was largely privatised in the 1990s and revived in 2023 to invest in renewable generation and storage. The SEC is an integrated generator and retailer of 100% renewable electricity to commercial and industrial customers, investing an initial AU$1 billion toward 4.5GW of new renewable generation and storage. Portfolio includes the 600MW Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (with Equis), SEC Renewable Energy Park Horsham, and SEC Delburn Wind Farm. It is establishing SEC Energy Works, a 143-hectare energy innovation precinct at Hazelwood North in the Latrobe Valley.
